Give the gift of trees

An ideal gift for a gardener, to help poverty and combat climate change, through Oxfam you can give the gift of 25 trees to someone in the developing world - as a present for your own friends or relatives.

Oxfam have a scheme whereby you can make a gift to the developing world on someone else's behalf, and Oxfam will then send a card to your friend or relative telling them what has been given. Perfect for those who don't want to give more unwanted clutter.

The gift of trees is extremely important for so many reasons, not least environmental concerns.

But planting trees such as juniper, guava and papaya also helps people's livelihoods. Fruit trees give people a crop which they can eat or sell. Other types of tree help stop soil erosion, provide timber for building, provide firewood, and give shade.

So why not turn over a new leaf this Christmas and plant some trees?

Dulce Marlen Contreras an Oxfam Partner in Honduras told Oxfam; "Oxfam gave us the money to buy an area of land, where we trained women on managing a tree nursery and planting trees. When Oxfam saw what we had done with the land they had funded, they gave us the money to buy another 40 fields."
