Churches get chance to quiz Christian candidate for London mayor

-29/3/04

Christians are to have an opportunity to grill Lib Dem London mayoral candidate Simon Hughes in an event organised by the Faithworks campaign.

The evening will provide an arena to address Simon Hughes about how Christians can be distinct as they engage in political activity at all levels. It is also being billed as an opportunity to discuss whether it is better to work from positions of power within the political system or to seek to challenge it from outside.

Simon Hughes has become well known for his Christian faith during his time as a Member of Parliament, and the meeting has been organised so that churches can quiz the MP about the difference his faith has made to his political career, his views

on the principles of Christian political engagement and what difference his faith makes to his mayoral ambitions.

The event will be staged at Headspace, Christ Church & Upton, the home of

church.co.uk who are also co-sponsoring the event.

The Faithworks Movement exists to empower and inspire individual Christians and every local church to develop their role at the hub of the community. It also seeks to challenge and change the public perception of the Church by engaging with both media and government.

Admission to the event is free, but by pre-booked ticket only. It takes place on Sunday 25th April, 7 - 9pm and will be chaired by Faithworks founder Steve Chalke.
