Listen to the South Christians urged

-28/9/04

Four major Christian agencies have combined to produce a booklet for local churches encouraging Christians to listen and respond to the experience of people from the ëtwo-thirds worldí.

ëVoices from the South: Inspiration from developing countries for Christian group studyí is a practical, 64-page booklet published by Action of Churches Together in Scotland (ACTS) and Churches Together in Britain and Ireland in association with Christian Aid and SCIAF, the Catholic development agency.

The five-week study course, which can be used at Lent and other times, tackles the key themes of poverty, education, health, trade and empowerment.

It also asks where God is to be found in the worldís struggles, and invites comparison with the purposes of Jesus in his mission to heal, teach and liberate.

The aim, say the authors, is not just to talk about the developing world but also to hear the voice of those who are often rendered voiceless by powerful global institutions. This, they declare, is a Gospel priority.

With commendations by Roman Catholic Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow and Church of Scotland Moderator Alison Elliott, ëVoices from the Southí costs £3.95 and is available from ACTS or CTBI. Contact: .
