Repeal of 'unjust' blasphemy law urged

-14/01/05

Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE), has urged ministers to repeal the blasphemy law to allay fears that the new incitement law will limit the freedom to criticise or make fun of religion, reports the Guardian newspaper.

The comments come after 'Christian Voice' a hardline conservative evangelical group said it would launch a private prosecution against the BBC over its screening of 'Jerry Spinger - The Opera' on BBC Two at the weekend.
