Campaigners gear up for third White Band Day

-17/11/05

Campaigners across the UK are gearing up for the third 'White Band Day' in the year of MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY, just days before the crucial World Trade Organisation (WTO) meeting begins.

The next White Band Day is scheduled for Saturday 10 December - which is set to be a day of global action when trade justice campaigners will stand together as part of an unparalleled mobilisation of hundreds of millions of people.

The crunch world trade negotiations in December will impact the lives of millions of people in poverty.

Campaigners say that the call will be the same whatever the location.

Tony Blair and other leaders of the world's most wealthy countries are being urged to make radical changes to the way world trade is currently managed so it benefits the poor and acknowledges its impact on the environment.

In particular across the globe on White Band Day III, campaigners will 'put the spotlight on trade justice', reminding world leaders that they are still 'watching and waiting for them to make poverty history'.

As the UK delegation leave for the World Trade Organisation ministerial, MAKEPOVERTYHISTORY and the Trade Justice Movement will present the Prime Minister with all the Votes for Trade Justice collected by thousands of campaigners over the last 2 years.
