Memorial for Mike Yaconelli announced

-13/11/03

Following the recent death of Mike Yaconelli, a regular and popular contributor at the Greenbelt arts festival, a tribute will be held on Sunday November 23rd at St Lukeís Church in Holloway, north London.

Coming a week after the American memorial to Mike, which takes place in San Diego on November 15th, the service will be a chance to "thank God for Mike's gifts - and that so many of us were lucky to cross paths with him, particularly at Greenbelt."

The memorial will include story telling, prayers and songs.

Mike Yaconelli died last month following a car accident.

He first came to the Greenbelt festival, with his wife Karla, in the mid-eighties. An animated and compelling speaker, he drew huge audiences to his talks and inspired many.

Mike's funeral was held on Sunday, November 2, in Yreka. There were about 800 people who attended, including many from the local community, from Mike's church, close friends, and family.

A tribute to Mike Yaconelli is planned at next summer's Greenbelt festival.
