Archbishop of Canterbury designate Justin Welby has made a strong appeal to the Church of England's General Synod to vote in favour of women bishops.

The General Synod of the Church of England is today charged with making a historic decision about whether to allow women to become bishops.

Church of England members are mobilising on social media sites to encourage General Synod representatives to vote 'yes' to women bishops this month.

Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams has begun a campaign to persuade Church of England General Synod members to back women bishops.
