The first match of the Deloitte Street Child World Cup is kicking off today in Durban, South Africa, with the host nation playing India.

The teams from Brazil, India, Nicaragua, the Philippines, South Africa, Tanzania, UK, and Ukraine have converged on Durban, South Africa for this week-long event and celebration, where they will work with international coaches to express themselves on the football pitch and with specially trained artists who will enable them to tell their stories.

A close personal friend, as well as a director of Ekklesia Nick Turner is also out there helping out, and doing a bit of blogging, tweeting and filming. (He has been one of the driving forces behind the project and we are all very proud of him). He will be doing a short film every night apparently.

Gary Mabbutt conducted the draw last night, and now it's all systems go.For up-to-the-minute news of all the matches, teams and events, as well as a daily video of highlights and blogs from the children participating, go to the official Street Child World Cup website,
