Tsunami: justice as well as relief needed, say Christians

As Asia's appalling tsunami death toll tops 125,000, Christian agencies are among those calling for a double-focus ñ on the immediate victims, including 5 million people completely destitute, but also on the long-term priorities of economic justice and redevelopment.
ìEvery earthquake is also a class-quake,î said Ekklesia research associate Simon Barrow. ìThough the disaster is natural, its impact is not. The poor always suffer disproportionately because they live in more vulnerable conditions, have fewer survival resources and are also undermined by debt, under-employment, lack of insurance, lack of property rights and unfair economic conditions.î
