Thanks to the support of a pioneering charitable trust, Ekklesia now has the opportunity to scale-up significantly over the next few years, and we are therefore looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to carry forward major organisational and financial development on the basis of a five-year business plan and strategy.
We are an innovative, radical Christian think-tank seeking to change public discourse on religion and politics from a post-Christendom perspective, to pioneer new ways forward in social policy-making from the ground up, and to collaborate with others at the cutting edge of change towards a more just, sustainable and peaceful society.
This role is a new, senior, full-time position in the organisation. It will be based in central London on an initial salary of £35k.
The post provides an exciting and demanding opportunity to play a major role in developing a significant public policy and advocacy organisation to a new level of effectiveness and profile.
The post-holder will enable us to increase our efficiency, to identify and access current and future resources for our work, and to enable effective implementation of strategies and key targets. Working closely with Ekklesia’s co-directors, the Chief Operating Officer will be at the heart of the organisation, supported by an administrator and reporting to the board of directors.
In terms of skills and competencies, the Chief Operating Officer will have excellent project, organisational and financial management skills. S/he will need to be able to prioritise effectively, to think strategically, to work well on their own as well as collaboratively, and to be highly motivated towards ensuring Ekklesia’s success. S/he will be enthusiastic about Ekklesia’s vision and values and will be able to spot opportunities for development, raise funds, recruit and manage an administrator, and set and manage both budgets and organisational systems.
The post-holder will work with the directors to identify projects and sources of income such as businesses and trusts. S/he will help co-ordinate the work of a part-time and voluntary team to ensure that aims, objectives, targets and impact criteria are met.

Closing date for applications: 15 March. Interviews: 27 March 2014.
(Please note: Ekklesia works – and will continue to work – across the British and Irish isles, and has one of its two lead directors based in Edinburgh, Scotland. This particular post will be housed in central London because of our developing, important relationship with Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, who have offered us regular office and meeting space; because of line management allocation and specific responsibilities; and also because of the the need to challenge the 'metropolitan Westminster-based elite' from close proximity as well as from afar.)Tweet
