St George the martyr

Ekklesia's 'rebranding' suggestion for St George may be controversial with some (though we have received warm comments as well as the expected abuse), but the Catholic church has already done it in a way.

A teacher writes to us: "The Catholic Church has in recent years re-upgraded the feast from commemoration to Solemnity in England and Wales which thus places it as one of the higher celebrations. Indeed, in my parish of St Jude's we will have a sung Mass in honour of this Saint - not for reasons of nationalism but for the virtues that led to his martyrdom.
