Whatever different people might be feeling about the election of Barack Obama in the United States, this is an extraordinary and moving moment for African-Americans, who voted for him overwhelmingly, for those who were involved in the earlier civil rights struggle, and for Black people throughout the world. King's speech tells us why, and in language which is both thoroughly Baptist but also, somehow, universal.
