Clegg in a sandwich pickle?

Is the Lib Dem leader giving good enough lunch? Ekklesia has direct evidence.

Former Lib Dem mayoral candidate Brian Paddick who 'came out' as a Christian, during his ill-fated electoral campaign has been getting more attention for his appearances on TV show ‘I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!’ than he did at the hustings. Whether this means more attention for his serialised diary, who knows. But if so, readers may discover his criticism of party leader Nick Clegg, who “makes the mistake of arranging a lunchtime meeting in his office and then talks as he eats his sandwich, with no food for us.”

Happily I can at least partly correct this impression. When I interviewed the Lib Demo supreme in his Westminster office earlier this year, for Christian social comment magazine Third Way, his staff enquired whether I had already eaten (I had), and Mr Clegg promptly stopped munching his egg sarnie – if I recall the content correctly – before our conversation began. You can read the outcome of the interview here:

So that’s another important rumour about matters not-quite-of-State laid to rest... Well, partly. Mine's a hummous and salad, Nick.
