Alongside the world famous Edinburgh Festival (throughout August) and the accompanying Festival of Politics (which we highlighted last week) stands the adventurous Festival of Spirituality and Peace (7-30 August 2010) which is bringing together people of faith and people of good faith, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Humanists and more to discuss, in a variety of ways, The Golden Rule: Can We Live By It?
Stand-out events include two presentations on Friday 20 August by Melkite Archbishop Elias Chacour, a long-term peacemaker in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict (http://www.ekklesia.co.uk/node/12902 [1]); a discussion between the humanist/atheist philosopher Julian Baggini and Episcopal Bishop Brian Smith (21st); 'Old Religion and New Society' with controversialist Richard Holloway (23rd); 'War in God's Name?' presented by Oliver McTernan (28th); and two topical sessions on religion and the law.
