Amnesty to document abuses under Egypt's ruling military council

Amnesty International is due to release a new report next week, analysing the situation of Egypt under the interim military regime there.

Amnesty International is due to release a new report next week on the situation of Egypt under the interim military regime there.

The report, entitled Broken Promises: Egypt's Military Rulers Erode Human Rights will be made public on 22 November 2011.

The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) has repeatedly pledged to break the cycle of repression entrenched over the past 30 years, but it has resorted to familiar patterns of abuse, say critics.

Released ahead of the start of important elections on 28 November 2011, the Amnesty report analyses how the rhetoric has obscured the increasing suppression of people who dare to defy, question or criticise Egypt’s military rulers.
