The Voice UK All Party Parliamentary Group is bringing the needs of people with learning disabilities who have experienced crime or abuse.to the attention of both Houses of Parliament at Westminster.
It also discusses redress for such victims as well as changes in public policy to uphold the rights of victims with learning disabilities and to prevent crime. The Group is chaired by Ian Mearns and holds meetings throughout the year.
The third meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group will be introduced by Katharine Quarmby, journalist and author of 'The Scapegoat: Why We Are Failing Disabled People', which explores the hostility many disabled people face in our society today, and questions what can be done to better tackle disability hate crimes.
Katharine also addresses a sub-set of Disability Hate Crime, known as 'mate crimes', where people with disabilities are groomed, exploited, attacked and even murdered by people posing as 'friends'
