Friends of the Earth welcome Shadow Energy Minister's Conference speech

Friends of the Earth have welcomed the Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary's Conference speech.

Commenting on Shadow Energy and Climate Change Secretary Caroline Flint's speech yesterday (1 October) at the Labour Party Conference, Friends of the Earth's Policy and Campaigns Director Craig Bennett said: "Caroline Flint is spot on - the Government's new dash for gas and lack of commitment on renewable power will harm jobs, damage investor confidence and push up bills.

"The forthcoming Energy Bill will set the direction of energy policy for decades to come. Labour and the Lib Dems must join together to fight Osborne's dirty plans for an expensive fossil-fuelled future.

"Labour's commitment to build new affordable homes must be extended to include a firm pledge to renovate millions of badly-insulated homes that cost a fortune to heat and make people ill."
