On the opening day of the G8 summit, leading international debt cancellation advocacy groups declared that the deal leaders negotiated 2 years ago has not solved the debt crisis. They also issued a strong call to the G8 to stop the activities of 'vulture funds'.

A national grassroots campaign mounted by Jubilee USA, the international humanitarian agency, Church World Service (the ecumenical Christian relief network) and allied organizations is urging Americans to send Valentine's Day wishes to US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, asking him to have a heart and cancel Liberia's 3.5 billion dollar debt.

An alliance of sixteen faith community leaders and the chief executive of the British Humanist Association have sent a letter to Prime Minister Tony Blair, urging the government to take further decisive action on the “affront and injustice of international debt”.
