Faith is the driving force behind “impressive work” in many local communities fighting poverty, a senior government minister has claimed in relation to a visit to a Glasgow-based anti-poverty organisation.

Glasgow Cathedral will host a major Christian Aid Week service on Sunday 17 May 2009. Dr Daleep Mukarji, director of the British-based international NGO, will preach. The service will include stories and prayers for justice for the world’s poor.

The National Association of British Arabs has condemned the attack on Glasgow Airport and the car bombs found in London - stressing that secular as well as religious opinion must be taken into account to move beyond war and terror.

Up to 50,000 demonstrators took to the streets in London and Glasgow today (Saturday 24 February 2007) to call for an end to the war in Iraq, a non-military resolution of tensions involving Iran, and the scrapping of Britain’s nuclear deterrent. Church leaders and Christians were among the protestors.
