Cosmologist Martin Rees, who has explored the origins of the universe and sounded alarm about the future of life on earth, has won the 2011 Templeton Prize.

Bernard d'Espagnat, a French physicist and philosopher of science whose research has focused on "veiled reality", has won the 2009 Templeton Prize for contributing to the interface of religion and science.
