An Anglican bishop will be expected to take equal opportunities training and faces costs of some £50,000 after a tribunal awarded a gay youth worker £47,000 compensation after ruling that he had been discriminated against.

The Anglican Bishop of Hereford, who lost a controversial discrimination case involving a gay church youth worker, has been given a 'bigot of the year' award by a leading lesbian and gay human rights organisation, Stonewall.

Christian and civil rights groups have expressed delight at an employment tribunal decision in favour of a gay youth worker who has won his discrimination claim against the Bishop of Hereford. There are calls for the bishop to resign.
