Last week brought another high-profile “Gays v. Christians” story. A court in Bristol ruled against Christian guest house owners who had denied a room to a gay couple. The coverage reinforced the notion that “Christians” and “gays” are two mutually exclusive groups that are implacably opposed to each other.
Christian Concern For Our Nation (CCFON) launched a new campaign yesterday (21 September) entitled “Not Ashamed”. It aims to encourage Christians to “stand up for Jesus Christ in public life”.
I am not ashamed to be a Christian active in public life, but I will not be wearing one of the “Not Ashamed” badges. This is because the campaign aims to encourage only a certain sort of Christian to engage in particular forms of public life.
There are many words that I could use to describe the front page headline in today’s Daily Telegraph. “Inaccurate” is one of the most polite, although it rather understates the problem.
