Ten years after the formation of broad-based group Christian Churches Together in the USA, some have hopes that US churches may be growing even closer together.

Traditionally celebrated between 18 and 25 January (in the northern hemisphere) or at Pentecost (in the southern hemisphere), the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity mobilises countless congregations and parishes around the world.

Church leaders from 22 WCC member churches in Indonesia and East Timor were present along with ecumenical networks at a recent conference in Bali.

Some 275 Christian leaders are meeting in Indonesia from 4 to 7 October to plot an ecumenical future, in what has been called a watershed gathering.
