Overweight or unhealthy people who fail to attend exercise sessions should have their benefits cut, the Local Government Information Unit proposed. Such a measure, included in a report produced with Westminster Council, would be unjust and do more harm than good.
Yesterday (7 April 2011) Westminster City Council ignored the opposition and pressed ahead with plans for a by-law which will outlaw rough sleeping and mobile food distribution (i.e. soup runs) in a designated area around the Victoria station in London. Final decisions await a full Council meeting in May.
A deadline is reached today for churches and others who help London's homeless, to protest against a proposed ban on soup runs. London Councils have put forward a proposal to prevent or restrict the "distribution of free refreshments", aimed at ending soup runs.
