Delegates to the Liberal Democrats’ party conference have voted in favour of ending government support for the arms trade.

Defence minister Peter Luff has drawn sharp criticism after declaring that the government will have no "embarrassment" about promoting sales for private arms companies.

The Student Christian Movement (SCM) has welcomed the involvement of Christian students in a national day of action aimed at ending universities’ links with arms companies. They said "Jesus would oppose the arms trade”.

London’s arms fair has opened this morning to a wave of protest and criticism. Protestors have demonstrated both outside the fair and at the offices of UKTI, the government unit through which the arms fair is subsidised.
