There has been a mixed response to a controversial televised debate between the Christian Party leader George Hargreaves and Nick Griffin of the far-right British National Party.
Nick Griffin has just sent out an email to his supporters about a debate he is doing tonight on TV, hosted by Christian television station Revelation TV. In it he says:
The three largest Free Churches in Britain have questioned whether the BNP should be allowed to stand as a party in the General Election. But others say bans are counter-productive and wrong.
The United Reformed Church has contacted its leaders and congregations, reminding them of its long standing opposition to extreme right-wing and racist political parties, and urging them to disavow parties that support racial discrimination.
The Church of England has advised its clergy not to give the British National Party a platform in church buildings, or even meet with representatives of the racist Party.
Leaders from the main religious communities across Stoke-on-Trent are today making a united stand against an anti-Muslim march which they believe is inciting racism, intolerance and xenophobia in the area.
In the last few weeks, Britain's few remaining climate change deniers have attempted a last throw of the dice in an effort to derail the Copenhagen climate summit.
