A public hearing on the “Misuse of blasphemy law and religious minorities in Pakistan”, organised by the World Council of Churches, is being held in Geneva.

An international public hearing highlighting the plight of religious minorities and misuse of blasphemy law in Pakistan will be held from 17 to 19 September

Churches in Pakistan have expressed frustration over the government's refusal to amend a controversial blasphemy law, as urged by the Pope and protesting civil rights activists.

A petition calling for the repeal of Pakistan's blasphemy laws, which impose the death sentence on a person found desecrating Islam's holy book, the Qur'an, has gone to the United Nation High Commissioner for Human Rights.
