Bishop Jean Zaché Duracin of the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti has written to the wider church asking people to go on remembering and supporting the country as it seeks "rebirth".

Haitians have marked the one-month anniversary of the awful earthquake that devastated their country on 12 January with music, memorials, tears and a strong commitment to see the country rise from the ashes once more.

The authorities in Haiti have increased their estimate of the number of people killed by the devastating 12 January 2010 earthquake from 212,000 to 230,000, with the final figure likely to be much higher.

Campaigners across Europe joined Haitian civil society groups today to condemn the failure of the International Monetary Fund to cancel Haiti’s debts, and the Fund’s extension of new loans to Haiti.
