As the debate continues about about whether and how credit unions and other community-based financial bodies can challenge big banking and immoral, high-interest charging pay-day lenders, the Just Festival in Edinburgh will be looking at moral and sustainable commerce.
As the debate continues about about whether and how credit unions and other community-based financial bodies can challenge big banking and immoral, high-interest charging pay-day lenders, the Just Festival in Edinburgh will be looking at moral and sustainable commerce.
‘Business for just the other 99 per cent’ is a conversation that is due to take place on on 21 August at 6pm, in the hall at St John’s Church, with speakers Frank McKillop (ABCUL), Kirsty Burnham (SoLoCo), Habib Malik (Islamic Relief Worldwide), and Josh Littlejohn (Social Bite).
The Festival, sponsored by civic, educational, interfaith and church bodies — including Ekklesia — also includes presentations and discussions on a Basic Income and ethical economics, in partnership with the Quakers.
The Just Festival is the new name for what was previously the Festival of Spirituality and Peace. Running from 2-26 August 2013, the Festival will feature 129 events and 450 performances across 28 venues, including top-quality speakers and discussion, performance, art, music and family activities.
