Eighty people came to Glasgow University Chapel for the launch of two important new books on religion on 21 November 2012.
One of these was by Alison Jasper, lecturer in religion at the University of Stirling and a scholar-member of the Critical Religion Association. It is entitled Because of Beauvoir: Christianity and the Cultivation of Female Genius.
The second book celebrated was by her husband, David Jasper, The Sacred Community: Art, Sacrament, and the People of God.
Both volumes are published by Baylor University Press (Waco, Texas, USA), 2012.
Speakers at the event included Professor Nigel Leask, Regius Professor Of English Literature at the University of Glasgow; Richard Holloway, former Episcopal Bishop of Edinburgh; the Rt Rev Gregor Duncan, Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway; Professor Ann Loades, Professor Emeritus at Durham University, and Professor Richard Roberts, Visiting Emeritus Professor at Stirling and a member of the Critical Religion Research Group.
