Many residents from two Edinburgh estates enjoyed their first opportunity to dance and perform in public tonight (Thursday 1 August), as over fifty dancers helped a mixture of local people and international city-centre visitors get in the mood for festival season.
Many residents from two Edinburgh estates enjoyed their first opportunity to dance and perform in public tonight (Thursday 1 August), as over fifty dancers helped a mixture of local people and international city-centre visitors get in the mood for festival season.
Bringing flamenco, flamboyancy and a good deal of fun to the streets was the idea of event partners Hispanic Arts Scotland and Just Festival – which is backed by a range of civic, educational and faith organisations, including Ekklesia.
People from Wester Hailes and Craigmillar enjoyed a series of free local classes ahead of the flamenco flashmob on the historic Mound, as well as others hosted by the national dance agency Dance Base.
The Just Festival, also known simply as Just, runs from 2-26 August 2013. It is based at St John’s Church (Princes Street and Lothian Road) and some 27 other venues, and combines artistic and performance style events with conversations, talks, films exhibits and other ways of exploring how to live together creatively in a mixed-belief society.
