Wallis was a major speaker at Greenbelt 2013, Cheltenham Racecourse, where he was also interviewed live by Claire Balding on BBC Radio 2’s Good Morning Sunday. Then on Thursday, while in Belfast, he was interviewed on the BBC Radio 4 Today Programme. Both appearances are available on the BBC’s ‘listen again’ web facility.
On Wednesday evening (28 August) he spoke at the Fitzroy Presbyterian Church in Belfast (http://www.fitzroy.org.uk/), and yesterday (29 August) he was at St John’s Edinburgh (http://www.stjohns-edinburgh.org.uk/) – where Just Festival has recently finished – and then St Paul’s and St George’s (http://www.pandgchurch.org.uk/).
Apologies for not informing Ekklesia readers earlier. We did not get the information in time.
Tonight, at 7.30pm, Jim is at Elmwood Church, Eccles Old Road, Salford, M6 8AG. On Sunday 1 September the tour moves to London, starting at Holy Trinity Clapham’s evening service (http://holytrinityclapham.org/). This is the Church associated with abolitionist William Wilberforce and the Clapham Sect, and has a strong history of supporting evangelical social action.
Also on Sunday, Jim Wallis will be morning on BBC Radio Scotland’s Sunday morning programme as well as various BBC local radio stations in England.
On Monday 2 September, there will be an interview live on Premier Radio’s Inspirational Breakfast show at 8am, followed at 7pm with a speaking engagement at Oasis/Faithworks which is open to all. (http://www.oasisuk.org/about/oasisfamily/faithworks)
Finally, on Tuesday 3 September, the American pastor and social activist will be addressing the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity (LICC), St Peter’s Church, Vere Street, London W1G 0DQ, at 6.30pm.
Jim Wallis is a Christian writer and political activist. He is best known as the founder and editor of Sojourners magazine and as the founder of the Washington DC-based Christian community of the same name. He is well known for his advocacy on issues of peace and social justice. Although Wallis actively eschews political labels, he describes himself as an evangelical and is often associated with what others label the ‘evangelical left’, as well as being a significant figure in a leader in the Red Letter Christian movement – which developed in reaction to the co-option of much evangelicalism in the US by the religious right.
