A more conciliatory approach appears to be forthcoming from the Evangelical Alliance following its public criticism of Rev Steve Chalke. A public statement by the Alliance last month publicly chastised Steve Chalke for questioning the doctrine of ‘Penal Substitution’, urged him to “think again” and said he had “insufficient appreciation” of the extent to which the idea had shaped Evangelicalism.
