Nobel Peace Prize Laureates inspire global teens in ‘PeaceJam’

Archbishop Desmond Tutu joined seven other Nobel Peace Prize Laureates including the Dalai Lama who came together on Saturday to encourage a new generation of activists dedicated to bringing about peaceful resolutions to the world problems.
ìI look at you and I am in aweî said Archbishop Tutu on the last day of a global youth conference hosting 3,000 young people from around 31 countries.
The conference was the culmination of a years study and ten years of youth peace studies, ëPeaceJamí.
It took place at the University of Denver in the US.

Tutu urged the delegates not to think of Nobel laureates as descending angels but ordinary people, ìjust like youî: echoing the sentiment of the late Dorothy Day who famously said, ìDo not call me a saint, I donít want to be dismissed that easily.î
Archbishop Desmond Tutu, The Dalai Lama, Betty Williams; Jody Williams, Rigoberta Menchu Tum; Adolfo Perez Esquivel; Shirin Ebadi and Malread Corrigan Maguire each took the platform and many took the opportunity to criticise US foreign policy while they were there.
ìHow about exporting some of your generosity instead of your bombsî said Archbishop Tutu to a rapturous applause from teenagers taking part in a year-long cause in peace studies which was launched exactly a decade ago by campaigners Dawn Engle and Ivan Suvanjieff.
According to their website, PeaceJam is ìan international education program built around leading Nobel Peace Laureates who work personally with youth to pass on the spirit, skills and wisdom they embody.î
