An international committee has been created to assist with the needs of Iraqi Christians within post-war Iraq, who are likely to suffer great hardship in the event of military action.
The ìIraq Crisis Relief Committeeî is made up of Jordanian Christian agencies, charities and Manara Ministries together with similar bodies from Iraq and the UK.
The initiative is being coordinated internationally by the Barnabas Fund from their UK headquarters.
The primary method of assistance will be to provide food for 60,000 families in Christian areas of Iraq, together with medical assistance, and tents and blankets for those internally displaced.
Estimates suggest that thoughout Iraq there might be as many as 1,000,000 Christians from catholic, orthodox and protestant evangelical backgrounds.
A separate committee known as ìThe Poolî exists in Jordan to assist third country nationals who have been evacuated from Iraq to Jordan.
The Pool incorporates the major churches, evangelical charities and evangelical organisations including Manara Ministries. Its primary work will be to care for incoming third country nationals by providing food.
