A selection of hard-core pro-Israel/anti-Palestinian groups will meet this weekend in Washington for an ìInterfaith Zionist Leadership Summitî which is likley to strenghen an emerging alliance of Jewish and Christian Zionists.
The meeting will take place at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington DC, with the aim of taking a formal position against the ìRoad Mapî for peace in the Middle East.
Co-sponsored by a number of predominantly Evangelical groups with specific views about the fulfilment of biblical prophesy concerning Israel, the stated aim of the conference is ìTo oppose rewarding murderous Palestinian terrorism with statehood – mocking our own war on terror and ultimately encouraging renwed arab aggression against an Israel made invitingly vulnerableî.
The meeting will also set out to expose ìhow President Bushís stated policy of June 24, 2002 specifying essential pre-conditions for support of Palestinian statehood has been seriously undermined, eroding Americaís credibility and debasing our enduring national interest.î
The conference will solidify and chart future strategy for an emerging alliance of Jewish and Christian Zionists as the ties between Christian fundamentalism in the United States and Jewish fundamentalism in Israel appear to be growing stronger.
Israel’s Minister of Tourism, Benny Elon recently travelled to Washington to meet with a number of high-level Senators and Congressman, as well as Evangelical Christian leaders, to rally opposition to Bushís ìroad mapî.
The trip came after Benny Elon publicly said that Evangelical Christians in the United States were his partyís ìnatural partnersî in opposing the proposed two-state solution.
Some of the Christian and secular Right’s most well know figures will speak at the conference, including Frank Gaffney of the Center for Security Policy, Michael Ledeen from the American Enterprise Institute, author of “The War Against the Terror Masters,” and Daniel Pipes, from the Middle East Forum.
Gary Bauer, of American Values, Roberta Combs, the President, Christian Coalition, Ed McAteer of the Religious Roundtable, and Janet Parshall, host of Janet Parshall’s America are among those representing the religious right.
