The trial date has been set for two pro-life candidates who were arrested during the election campaign for the Welsh Assembly.
Fiona Pinto and Joseph Biddulph were detained after showing a picture of a 21 week aborted child which was deemed to be ëabusive, threatening or intimidatingí, whilst campaigning in the streets of Newport, Wales.
The police have now brought an extra charge ñ calling the actions of the candidates ëdisorderlyí.
The 3rd and 4th of September has been set as the trial date for who. The case will be heard in Abergavenny.
ìThe need for a further charge undoubtedly indicates that the police are worried they will lose the case,î said a spokesperson for the ProLife Alliance.
ìThey are right to be concerned about their chances. There is no excuse for arresting election candidates who were exercising their democratic rights by taking part in a peaceful demonstration.î
One of the arresting police justified his actions by stating: ìIn all my eighteen years service to the crown…this image is one of the most gross and upsetting and totally despicable sights I have ever seenî.
ìIf the police are so disturbed by the brutality depicted in the image, then perhaps they ought to join us in our opposition to abortionî said the pro-life spokesperson.
