A woman has opened fire in a church in Atlanta, Georgia, killing her mother and the minister before turning the gun on herself.
The shooting happened early on Sunday at the Turner Monumental AME church in Kirkwood – a largely black neighbourhood in the east of the city.
There were no witnesses, as the shootings happened before church services began.
Police have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the shootings.
The motive remains unclear, and police say they will have to try to piece together what happened from the crime scene.
There was shock among the congregation when they arrived at the church and found out about the shootings.
In 1999, Atlanta suffered one of America’s worst mass shootings when disgruntled stock market trader Mark Barton murdered his wife and two young children before embarking on a violent spree in which nine people were shot dead.
He then shot himself after a five-hour siege involving the police.
