Christian Aid is challenging Christmas shoppers across the UK to give a gift with real meaning this year.
The Share The Celebration Advent and Christmas Appeal focus on gifts. The appeal rejoices in Godís supreme gift of Jesus at Christmas and invites people to share their celebrations with the poorest communities around the world, by supporting Christian Aid.
A range of inspiring resources available online will help churches support communities by praying, acting and giving this Christmas. Alongside this Christian Aid is offering people different ways to give a gift with real meaning at Christmas.
One of the simplest is to use the brand new Christian Aid Christmas envelope. Similar to the famous Christian Aid Week envelope, the new Christmas version can be used as a straightforward way for congregations to donate to Christian Aid during carol services, for example.
Visitors to the web site will be able to send e-mail Christmas cards – saving time and giving money – buy traditional cards and wrapping paper or make a donation as a gift.
Last Christmas UK consumers spent £12.5 billion on presents, food and entertainment. An average of £522 per household across the country . Yet in a world of increasing inequalities, 1 in 5 of the worldís population has to survive on less than a day.
The smallest donation could change someoneís life this Christmas. Just £1 could provide a farmer in Ethiopia with enough seeds to raise 100,000 tree seedlings, £5 a month could provide a family in Uganda with enough turkeys to start up a small business , while £10 a month could provide a child with access to clean water for the rest of their life.
