Water Buffalo sent through Christian Aid

Often the solutions to poverty are quite surprising!

A water buffalo and calf is a prime example. Sara Makram lives in a very poor community in Egypt. She has six daughters to care for and the water buffalo she was able to buy through a loan from Christian Aid partner COC Bless, has made an amazing difference to her family.

Sara couldn’t always afford to buy nutritious yoghurt, butter and cheese so sometimes her family had to go without. Now things have changed, as Sara says: ‘The water buffalo has helped us a lot. It’s like the kitchen of our house. Before we got the buffalo, we had to buy butter and cheese from shops. But now, our buffalo provides us with food at all times.’ They can also sell some of the cheese to raise money – no wonder she speaks so affectionately of her buffalo! Schemes like these can provide livestock and other resources to the most vulnerable, giving them added income security.
