ONE of Ekklesia’s functions as a change network and think-tank (2002 – 2024) was to offer an interface between academic research or commentary on the one hand, and a wider audience found in NGOs, the media, civic and religious networks, and advocacy organisations on the other.
Over the years, we were involved with academic conferences and events at universities in Rennes (France), Edinburgh and Stirling (Scotland), Surrey, Manchester and Oxford (England), Indiana (USA) and elsewhere.
We were also keen to encourage the work of independent academics and researchers, and to publish or co-publish with them.
From time-to-time we were able to assist with postgraduate research. In the past we offered internships to postdoctoral students.
Ekklesia director Simon Barrow has been a member of the advisory board for the Centre for Theology and Public Issues at the University of Edinburgh, and for the Religion Advisory Board within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Stirling.
We were pleased to support work in the area of Critical Religion between 2011 and 2022.
