Anabaptist Theology Forum - 5/6 December 2012
The Anabaptist Theology Forum will meet again near Leamington Spa from 5th-6th December, and there are a few spare spaces for those with a serious interest in both modern and historic Anabaptism.
Dr Richard Bourne, author of Seek the Peace of the City: Christian Political Criticism as Public, Realist, and Transformative (http://www.directionjournal.org/article/?1612) will be presenting on Mennonite theologian John Howard Yoder and restorative justice. Dr Ruth Gouldbourne of Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church in London will be introducing the Hubmeier communion liturgy. And a discussion session will focus on where the 'post-Christendom' analysis of our religious situation is heading, including an interview contribution from Dr Stuart Murray Williams, editor of the After Christendom series of books published by Paternoster Press.
The group aims to be small enough for good discussion and interaction, in addition to quality presentations. It consists both of reflective Christian practitioners, and academics concerned with applied Christian theory.
We are all sympathetic to / interested in Anabaptist ideas, history and possibilities, though we come from a variety of denominational and theological traditions and tend to sit light to imposed labels. There are strong shared concerns within the group for peace and justice, probing theological depths, historical awareness, and alternative patterns of worship, church life and engagement in a post-Christendom context. We value the 'core convictions' of the Anabaptist Network UK - http://www.anabaptistnetwork.com/coreconvictions
The cost of full board for the conference (B&B plus morning coffee, lunch, tea and supper on the first day; and morning coffee and lunch on the second) will be £85 + VAT - with pro rata reductions for those who are only able to be there part of the time.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Simon Barrow, co-director of Ekklesia, as soon as possible - write to simon.barrowATekklesia.co.uk and head your email ATF Conference.
(If you do not know the group and we do no yet know you, it would help if you could tell us a little bit about yourself and your interests when enquiring.)
