Hiroshima Day events around the UK

Sunday 6 August 2017 will be the 72nd anniversary of the atomic bomb being dropped on Hiroshima. Three days later, on 9 August, the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. Many commemerative events and services will be taking place across the UK.

In London, Pax Christi will hold their annual Hiroshima Day time of prayer and information sharing in the Piazza outside Westminster Cathedral, from 10am - 5pm. There will be prayers at 11.30am and again at 3.30pm. All are welcome to join.

In Coventry, the Hiroshima Day Service will take place at 6pm in the Chapel of Unity, Coventry Cathedral

On Wednesday 9 August from 10am - 5pm, there will be Nagasaki Commemorations in Westminster Cathedral Piazza. That evening, at 6.30pm, the Franz Jägerstätter memorial service, with speaker Bruce Kent, will be held in in Westminster Cathedral Crypt Chapel, followed by a procession to the Battersea Peace Pagoda, interfaith prayers and a lantern floating ceremony on the River Thames at sunset.

In Liverpool there will be a Nagasaki Day Peace Stall on Wednesday 9 August from 10am - 5pm in Liverpool City Centre.

In Kent, on Wednesday 9 August at 8.15pm there will be Hiroshima and Nagasaki Commemorations in the Choir Chapel, Aylesford Friary
