Peter asked, ‘Who then is the faithful and wise steward?’” (Luke 12. 42) God’s inviting presence is not something that can be quarantined to certain times of the week or year. What Jesus shared among his followers was not ‘religion’ as a rarified activity parcelled off from the rest of life and placed into the hands of specialists. He saw our relationship with God, with each other and with the world around us as being about a new way of living. That involves taking a fresh look at things like stewardship (our responsibility for everything we have been given).
