As we enter the Advent season we are aware that Christmas is coming – and with it the promise of peace. But how do we make that a reality in a fractured world? That is the challenge behind our annual appeal 2014. Thank you to those who have contributed so far.
As we enter the Advent season we are aware that Christmas is coming – and with it the promise of peace. But how do we make that a reality in a fractured world? That is the challenge behind our annual appeal 2014. Thank you to those who have contributed so far.
Can we encourage you to make a contribution if you haven’t done yet? Your contribution can really make a difference!
Throughout December we are continuing to remind people about the alternatives to war arising from meaningful Remembrance – with the centenary of the First World War still very much in our consciousness. We are using our website and Facebook page to continue our “Who Would Jesus Shoot?” discussion. Then on 13th December we are formally re-launching our groundbreaking Re-imagining Remembrance report to coincide with Armistice carols.
We are deliberately highlighting instances of practical and positive peacemaking. These include the recent Quaker initiative to support grassroots peace organisations in Palestine and Israel, the World Council of Churches’ call to protect refugees and displaced people and our Middle East expert Dr Harry Hagopian’s hopeful analysis of the Pope’s visit to Turkey . Our special Christmas website, and the ALTERnativity Advent calendar , produced in association with Bloomsbury Baptist Church, also has a peace with justice slant . Then there’s preparation for our ‘peace chaplaincy’ initiative. There’s so much going on, but we need resources to make an impact.
You can help us with all of this by sending a Christmas donation, marked “annual appeal” to Ekklesia, Bloomsbury Central Baptist Church, 235 Shaftesbury Avenue, London WC2H 8EP or by donating via our PayPal account.
Thank you so much for your support
