As the Bill to allow same-sex marriage makes its way through the UK Parliament, BBC religion commentator and broadcaster Ernie Rea and guests on the Radio 4 ‘Beyond Belief’ programme (4.30pm, Monday 25 February 2013) will be discuss whether homosexuality is compatible with Islam, and related questions.

The Muslim Council of Britain has voiced its opposition to the new Bill, but what does the Qur’an and Islamic tradition say about homosexuality? Is a prohibition unequivocal and absolute?

Discussants on the programme will be Ibrahim Mogra, one of Britain’s leading Imams; Pav Akhtar, Muslim politician and the director of UK Black Pride; and Islamic scholar and Secretary of the charity Scriptural Reasoning, Sheikh Dr Muhammed al-Hussaini.

The programme will be available online for a week after broadcast.
