Today, Monday 16 December 2013, the Care Bill has its second reading in the Westminster parliament.
The reality is that cuts to council social care budgets have left many disabled and elderly people without the support they need.
Recently, the excellent False Economy blog made a film which follows Mary Laver, who is severely disabled, through her life for 24 hours.
Mary wanted to make the film to show people what the round-the-clock care that she needs to live in her own home looks like. She is almost entirely unable to move her arms, hands or legs. Mary needs carers to cook for her, feed her, shower her and to take her to the toilet.
This is why people need care support, and why it is immoral that it is being removed.
