Born out of a hope that we could mobilise people to take action on climate change, Earth Hour has inspired a global community of millions of people in 7,001 cities and towns across 152 countries and territories to switch lights off for an hour as a massive show of concern for the environment.
Earth Hour 2013 is being held on Saturday 23rd March between 8:30pm – 9:30pm. But its message of reflection, action and concern will radiate out well beyond the ‘big switch off’.
Climate change remains perhaps the greatest single threat facing the planet today – with massive knock-on effects for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable people, but leaving no-one untouched.
A warming planet alters weather patterns, water supplies, seasonal growth for plants and a sustainable way of life for us and the world’s wildlife. Humanly exacerbated climate change has already started, but it is not too late to take action, Earth Day activists point out. There is still time for us all to be part of the solution rather than the problem.
