Two friends of Ekklesia will be appearing on BBC Radio Scotland at 8.05am on Easter Sunday morning (20 April 2014), in a programme intriguingly entitled ‘Bayonets and Green Blades’.
In this year of commemorations, the Revs Sigrid Marten and Duncan MacLaren, a Church of Scotland minister and an Episcopal priest respectively, explore the spiritual resources arising from the horror, bloodshed and loss of the First World War.
In a half hour programme, they visit the island of Inchcolm in the Firth of Forth, with its curious juxtaposition of war fortifications and a medieval Abbey.
Sigrid, whose husband is Ekklesia associate and Stirling University academic Michael Marten, is a parish minister in Balfron (http://www.balfronchurch.org.uk) and Fintry (www.fintrykirk.btck.co.uk), a prominent figure in the Kirk, and a member of the Iona Community (http://iona.org.uk) — which is known the world over for its commitment to justice and peace on the one hand, and the renewal of common life and worship on the other.
Duncan (http://thewaywelive.org) is trained in psychodynamic theory, theology and spiritual direction. Formerly rector of St James, Leith, he runs Top Storey Media (http://www.topstoreymedia.com), which specialises in narrative communication through short films, scripts and material for online and print outlets.
