You are invited to a public discussion at the University of Edinburgh on ’The Ethics of Everyday Life’ with Dr Michael Banner (Dean, Trinity College, University of Cambridge, formerly Professor of Christian Ethics at King’s College London). There will be responses from Professor Oliver O’Donovan (Emeritus Professor, New College and formerly Christ Church Oxford) and several New College PhD students: Nomi Pritz, Chris Medland and Joanna Leidenhag,
The event will be chaired by Professor Mona Siddiqui (New College, University of Edinburgh) and is co-sponsored by CTPI (the Centre for Theology and Public Issues). It takes place at 5pm Tuesday 8 May at the Martin Hall, New College, Edinburgh EH1 2LX. All are welcome. The input and discussion will be ollowed by a drinks reception in the Rainy Hall.
This discussion will be based around Dr Banner’s recent book on The Ethics of Everyday Life (OUP). The book seeks to reconceive the practice of moral theology, especially through a closer engagement with social anthropology. Dr Banner considers topics of universal interest, from before the cradle to after the grave, including the meaning and significance of having children, suffering, dying, burial, and mourning, as well as issues such as IVF, abortion, and euthanasia.
